The Scale is Still Going Down

My husband has been laid up for the past 4 days with his sciatica nerve. I took him to the doctor and he has been bedridden since. I've been busy waiting on him. He's been in a lot of pain. I wish I could take his pain for him. I think women deal better with pain than men.

I've also been busy helping a friend was an EEOC lawsuit. I've spent so much time looking stuff up on the computer. I've felt like me and the chair had become one. (I love a challenge.)

I workout on my treadmill this morning for 25 minutes. My knee was not hurting when I quit. I made sure I didn't over do it. I need to read the book that came with the treadmill. There are so many buttons I'm not sure what they all do. I've figured out how to do the incline, the speed, and the fan. It has many different programs on it....from 10,000 step program to 300 step.

I weighed myself before I took my walk and I've lost another pound. I may have gained when I was gone for that week, but I'm one pound below my weight the day I left. That is what is important.

I started my day with a cup of coffee, piece of rye toast and a bottle of water. My lunch consisted of a can of Cream of mushroom soup. It'a already 3:20pm and I haven't had ANY snacks.

It may be raining outside...but I've got sunshine on a cloudy day. Off to grab another bottle of water and chat with my mom.

Dreading A Needle

My yearly prescriptions are about to run out so I had to see a doctor to get them renewed. Since we've moved over 550 miles, I had to find a new doctor. When I took my husband to the Medical Center yesterday, I asked for an appointment with any doctor.

They gave me an appointment in the afternoon with a new doctor. He was really nice. Found out, he was originally from up near Chicago. No accent and easier to understand...what more could one ask for all I needed were my prescriptions refilled.

He told me instead of coming every 6 months like so many doctors in this area require, he'd only have me come once a year if I promised to workout 20 minutes 5 days a week. I saw no problem with that.

He told me I'd have to get a blood test so he could check my cholesterol. I wasn't to happy about that. Me and needles are like oil and water, we don't get along.

I went to the Medical Center this morning for the dreaded blood test. The girl looked at the veins in my left arm and said, "Wow, you have tiny veins." That was not exactly what I wanted to hear. She then put the rubber thingy on my right arm and said those were even smaller. She proceeded to put the rubber thingy back on my left arm. I was pretty nervous by then. I told her, "This is just a cholesterol test. If you can't get it, no problem. I don't really care if I take that medicine anymore anyway." She seemed like she was kind of new at it as she threw one needle away before she even got started because it felt wiggly? I never heard that before with a needle.

Talk about having some good luck, in walked an experienced nurse. She asked the young girl if she needed any help. She got the needle in and the blood drawn in a heart beat. Whew....I survived.

I'm not sure why I have such a fear of needles. I've been that way all my life. Guess I'm too old to out grow that fear. That just tells me....I better stay healthy!!!!

Puppy Has A New Home

Today we went to the auto body shop to check on the puppy. We brought some dog food incase he was still there. There were a couple of guys working on their own car. They told us the parts delivery guy had taken the puppy on Friday.

I was sad and glad at the same time. I wasn't sure what I was going to do if the puppy was still there. I hope he'll be healthy and happy in his new home and love and be loved in his new home. I may have only known little "Kelly" for a day....but I'll never for get him.

Fixing Car = Puppy Rescue

Yesterday I had to take my car to the shop to get two windows fixed. (I love my power windows until they quit working.) When I got there, a cute little beagle puppy came out of the bushes to great me. He was wagging his tail like we were long lost buddies.

The shop owner explained someone had dumped the puppy off a few days earlier and it had taken up residence in the hedges in front of the shop. The building has a big overhang so it offered cover for the dog. He said every morning they got the dog a sausage biscuit from McDonald's. The owner told us the guy that brings them car parts was suppose to pick the dog up on Friday. I was glad to hear it was getting a good home.

At 4:45, the shop called to tell me my car was done. We had to hurry to pick it up before they closed at 5:00pm. Of course, the little puppy came out of the bushes to greet me. Those big brown eyes just melted my heart. I told the office girl I was going to come back with some food and water for the dog.

At 5:30, my husband and I went back with goodies for the dog and a rug for him to sleep on. He started eating that food so fast. I was afraid he would get a tummy ache. I felt better when I left knowing he had food, water, and a rug to sleep on.

Low and behold, last night severe storm warnings as well as a tornado warning was in effect for our area. I was so worried about the puppy. At 10:00 pm last night, my husband and I jumped in the car to go rescue the little guy. Again, he was so happy to see us. He loved riding in the car.

As soon as we got home, my husband put him in the tub and gave him a bath. He stood there so quietly. He seemed to enjoy getting clean. Wow...talk about smelling better.

We own two dogs. Meadow, the 3 year old german shephard/collie mix....didn't care for the puppy. Sara, the 9 month old, she loved the puppy. The two of the played and played and played. I had an extra doggie bed and set it up in the kitchen for the puppy. Finally about midnight I got all the dogs settled down. The puppy slept like a baby.

This morning the sky is blue and the sun is shining. My husband took the dog back to the shop before it opened. I'm going to check later this afternoon to see if that guy picked up the puppy. I want to make sure it has a home.

I knew there was some reason I picked that shop out of all that are in the area. It was to help that little puppy I named Kelly after my grandpa. I may never see him but I'll always remember those cute eyes and that wagging tail.

Gaining Weight after Age 25

Did you know the average American gains 1 to 1.5 pounds each year after turning 25 years old. YIKES!! Let's see...I'm almost 57 so if I do the math, I'm still over the average weight gain. (Sighs)

As we grow older, we become more sedetary. To me that's normal. I've got ole "arthur" my neck and back crack like I'm breaking the wishbone of a chicken. My right leg also gives me fits. Needless to say, I just don't move like I use to. I know my big problem is the fact I can still get that fork to my mouth with no problem.

The solution is simple. To lose weight, a person has to consume less calories than they burn. Getting to that point is what isn't easy. That is why there are so many weight loss programs and "wonder" diet pills and supplements out there. Billions being made each year on the promises of these programs and products.

I have found that keeping a log of what I eat each day and the time has really been helpful in my weight loss program. No one knows your body better than you. Find a formula that works for you. It can be one you develop yourself.

If you have a hard time coming up with some menus, try the 28 day menu offered by T.O.P.S. (taking off pounds sensibly) The menu is free....so it's worth a try.

Me and My Lawnmower

I usually help my husband with his lawn service. Yesterday I was tired and didn't go with him. I should have.....he had an accident. I'm always harping about how he drifts into the other lane of traffic. Yesterday, he hit the front end of a car with his truck by drifting into oncoming traffic. He was just lucky they were both going slow enough no one was hurt.

Today he had another lawn to do so I knew I better help him. This is a new customer. Dang, what a big lawn. It was obvious this lawn hadn't been cut in quite some time. Of course, much of the lawn is on a hill. Usually when I use my lawnmower on hills my leg ends up hurting me so bad I can barely walk. Today, after all that cutting, my leg is barely hurting. I am so surprised. The only thing that happened was the lawnmower through a rock up and cut my arm. I got blood all over my shirt. I don't usually set the idle so high on the lawnmower but the grass was so long and thick, that the engine kept dying at a lower speed.

Perhaps with this extra work today, I'll be able to sleep tonight. I've got my fingers crossed. It was nice burning off the extra calories. It was perfect weather for working outside.

Sleep Sleep Sleep....Where is the Sandman?

I am still having trouble sleeping since I've gotten home last Sunday. I keep waiting for that sandman to fly by and make me tired. (sighs--no luck) I've up all night and have been going to sleep between 7:00 and 10:30 am. I usually sleep a couple of hours and get up. In the afternoon, I sleep for about an hour. I'm tired of being tired if that makes any sense.

This crazy sleeping pattern has me forgetting to take my medications. Needless to say, my hands and feet are so swollen. I tried sleeping pills long ago and I remember how drowse they made me the next day. I don't like that feeling either.

Last night I was up all night and finally fell asleep about 7:30 this morning. I got up at 10:30 for a few minutes and then went back to sleep finally getting up for good at 11:30 am. I'm going to try to make myself stay up all day and see if I can sleep tonight.

If that doesn't work, I think I am going to try Melatonin. It is suppose to be a natural drug our body makes.

This crazy sleep pattern is effecting my weight loss as well. I find myself eating mushroom soup at 3:00 am. I'm so tired during the day, I don't have the energy to walk or get on my treadmill. Geesh, what a vicious circle.

Looks Like I've Gained Weight

Sunday and Tuesday night I couldn't sleep at all. I was up all night, finally falling asleep after 6:00 am. There is nothing worse than feeling tired and not being able to sleep.

I weighed myself this morning and it looks like I've gained 4 pounds while I was gone. I'm not sure how accurate that is since I'm retaining so much water right now. It's hard to bend my fingers and it looks like I don't have any ankles.

I didn't drink much water while we were gone for that week. I also didn't take my medications like I was suppose to either. I'll give myself another week at home before I weigh myself again.

Gosh, I just remembered, I forgot to take my pills today. Sleeping those weird hours has me totally messed up. I didn't wake up until noon and then we went to town. I hope I'll be back to normal in the next few days. Feeling like this just isn't any fun.

Glad to be Home

I wish I had followed my gut instincts....I never wanted to make that trip to the Philippines....something told me to stay home. I'm kicking myself for not listening to that little voice.

It's easy to see through people when you are an observer and not emotionally attached. The only reason we were needed over there was so everything appeared proper at the big fancy wedding.

They put us up at a dive hotel near in the poor section of town. Last night when we got home I looked the place up on tripadvisor.com and found it was rated #24 out of 38..there were a few that weren't rated or it would probably have been lower. I know my son doesn't know anything about that country so it was his new wife that chose that place for us. (what a sweetie)

We had to take a taxi to the hotel they were staying at for the wedding. We did rate a ride to the church for the wedding with my son. When the wedding was over, we were left standing there not sure how we were suppose to get back to the hotel. We saw a subdivision with guards and walked over there so they could help us find a cab back to the hotel for the reception.

As we were leaving I said goodbye to my son and his bride. She said she wanted to see us the next day. (I knew that was a bunch of crap) Of course we never heard from them nor did they bother coming down to our hotel the next day. Her aunt called that evening because they were having a dinner honoring of the couple. I didn't bother going but my husband did. I'm sure glad I didn't, the kids didn't bother showing up. Her mother told Alex they were tired and went to their hotel to get some sleep. (So glad I listened to that little voice. I'd have told them what I thought of their false promises and their selfish self-centered daughter.)

I don't figure I'll ever see my son again. I hope he wears those rose-colored glasses for life...he is happy. That's what is important...his happiness.
